Established in 2004, THE VISION is a leased portion off a 300-acre tract of land in southeast Huntsville owned by Mr. & Mrs. William (Billy) C. Dunlap, Jr. The land sits on the south end of Green Mountain and is made up of varying terrains and numerous hardwoods. “When God allowed us the opportunity to purchase this property we never felt like it belonged to us,” says Billy. “He has placed within our hearts a desire to develop it for His purposes.”
The Dunlap’s desire is to develop a place where people, churches, organizations, etc. can conveniently get away and grow spiritually in their Christian faith through training, seminars, camp programs, and just plain relaxation. Billy says, “People need an environment conducive to this kind of growth. I find myself a victim of time constraints by not allowing adequate time for God to speak and direct my paths.” Billy visualized a facility where people can retreat from the outside pressure brought on by daily demands. All Christians need an environment that allows for prayer, reflection, and rebuilding. We feel that a secluded environment encourages spiritual renewal and provides an opportunity for sharing and investing in the lives of others.

STATEMENT OF FAITH: (back to top)

While Vision Ministry, Inc. is not affiliated with a specific denomination, the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) expresses our deeply rooted biblical convictions and our statement of faith. Click HERE to view a copy of the Baptist Faith and Message (2000).

Our statement of faith at Vision Ministry, Inc. has at its core the following foundational truths:

  • One God – consisting of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
  • Jesus Christ – Son of God, born of a virgin and conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus died to save us from our sin, that He defeated death through His bodily resurrection, and that He is the only way to heaven and eternal life.
  • Second Coming – We believe Jesus Christ will come again in Glory and Honor, to judge the living and the dead.
  • Bible – We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, living word of God and is the only reference for Christian faith, doctrine, and conduct.
  • Marriage – We believe that marriage is a sacred institution and is the covenant joining of one man with one woman for life.

We are excited about 2018 at The Vision and look forward to the direction we feel God is leading us in based on the responses we have had to our 2017 improvements. Site prep will be complete this year for our eagerly anticipated Multi-purpose building at Legacy Camp. This building will offer an indoor worship center that we are planning to be able to accommodate 200+ people. It will feature improved bathrooms and a warming kitchen.
The ropes course remains a popular attraction, and additional elements are currently being added. We will revisit expansion of our high ropes challenges for the end of 2018 with the possibility of beginning the first phase of our zipline course.
We are developing walking trails from Legacy Camp to the Lodge. This will allow our campers a more direct route to Th Lodge.
Work on Phase 2 of the Lodge is in progress with an aggressive timeline of completion by March 2018. Built as a single-family residence, the Dunlaps plan to open up their home to family and friends to continue the mission statement set forth by the Vision Ministry board member. It will sleep up to 42 and will offer upgraded accommodations and meeting spaces within their home.
The pool/pavilion area was opened mid-summer of 2016 and will be in full swing this year with concessions available for our campers. It will be open for reservations for day events such as birthday parties and other poolside special events. It includes bathrooms with showers, seating area, and a full kitchen.
The lake is undergoing repairs which will be completed by late 2018. The pier is in operation and offers space for day activities.

The rappelling we offer at Speedway Cave is growing in interest and offers instruction for both beginning and advanced rappelers. It features a 60-foot drop along the rock formation above Speedway Cave.

We anticipate having all our street signs in place this Spring, and we will install additional lighting in some of our areas. Along with these upgrades is the continuing road improvements as we extend and widen areas of our property.
We are exceedingly grateful for a group of volunteers beyond compare. These servants have worked on our trails, cut wood for our firewood ministry, developed the rappelling area, assisted with street and tree cleanup, landscaped beds, and have labored in the areas of maintenance, cooking, and cleaning. The encouragement and hands-on involvement they bring to our camp is the glue that keeps us going. We are also thankful for those who God has called to give as well. This past year has seen an increase in our financial support.
Trey and Robyn Cates continue to reach out to individuals, non-profits, and local churches through mass mailings, tours, facilitations, and one-on-one relationships. They support The Vision’s ministries through vision casting, event planning and execution, and curriculum development. They are also extensively involved in our high and low ropes courses by acting as facilitators as well as gaining annual certifications and increasing awareness. Their previous camp directing history and ministry experience make The Vision what it is today. Their close involvement with our board of directors, careful budget planning, and spreadsheet analysis have presented a clear picture of our current path as well as the direction we are heading.
Please pray for The Vision as we continue to focus all our activities on the simple message of the Gospel of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

We can currently sleep 100 people in our cabin and three bunkhouses. Our Pavilion can serve groups as large as 100.
